The fall of the site known as Backpage came swiftly, and now the sales and marketing director of the website has pleaded guilty to conspiring to facilitate prostitution.
49-year-old Dan Hyer admitted to participating in a plan that gave prostitutes free advertisements in order to get them away from other competitors. According to reports, Hyer is the second employee from Backpage to plead guilty to charges brought against them.
There are still six people who are currently facing charges from the whole Backpage takedown, including founders Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey. Some of the other people who were operating the website were accused of laundering money they received from selling ads.
Hyer is facing up to five years in prison along with a maximum fine of $250,000. As part of the plea deal, Hyer took, 17 money laundering charges along with 50 charges of facilitating prostitution will be dismissed.
